At Amethyst, we mainly focus on radiation therapy, which is used to treat about 60% of people at some point during their cancer treatment. In some of our centres, we also offer chemotherapy, in partnership with public or private hospitals, to provide integrated patient care.
As part of this comprehensive cancer management, we also offer complementary supportive therapies, such as nutrition or psychological support.
Our centres are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment that ensures appropriate treatment. The different radiotherapy techniques are chosen by your doctor for your particular case. Currently, our deployed techniques are:
Radiotherapy
Radiation therapy is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and reduce tumours.
There are two main types of radiation therapy: external radiation therapy and brachytherapy. The external radiation therapy method delivers one or more high-energy X-ray beams to the tumour. The beams are generated outside the patient by a linear particle accelerator and are targeted to the tumour’s location. Advanced radiotherapy techniques aim to maximise the radiation dose on the tumour by minimising the dose received by healthy tissues surrounding the tumour. In our centres, advanced radiotherapy techniques include IMRT (conformational intensity modulation radiotherapy), VMAT (volumetric modulated arc therapy) and stereotactic radiotherapy.
